Micromosaic jewellery is currently on display in Palazzo Guiccioli, as part of the active participation of the Byron and Risorgimento Museums in the Ravenna Mosaic Biennale, taking place in Ravenna from 18 October 2025 to 18 January 2026. The exhibition is organized in close collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts of Ravenna.
Created by students from the Academy’s three-year “Jewellery Design” programme, the artworks are showcased in the display windows of the museum facing Via Morigia and can be freely visited during regular museum hours, from Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 11pm.
“These pieces,” explains Emanuela Bergonzoni, coordinator of the Jewellery Design course at the Academy of Fine Arts of Ravenna, “were crafted in metal by eight first-year students, who developed micro-collections of about three to five pieces each. The prototypes were decorated using traditional Roman spun glass.” The manual prototyping then served as a basis for industrial serial production. The pieces were designed with the commercial jewellery market in mind, with particular attention to design, haute couture, and luxury sectors.
“This is an important opportunity for us,” says Mirella Falconi Mazzotti, President of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Ravenna, “to give visibility to the Byron and Risorgimento Museums by integrating them into the series of events that make up the Ravenna Mosaic Biennale.”
The collections are the result of both technical and creative work by a group of young artists who have successfully merged handcrafted prototypes with industrial production techniques. Through the meticulous placement of glass filaments, Anna Agati, Giovanni Amadori, Eleonora Ancarani, Shuyi Qui, Alice La Franca, Debora Dell’Aquila, Sara Cavina, and Jingyi Zhang have created micromosaic jewellery with a strong aesthetic impact and a high degree of innovation.
The Jewellery Design course offers many career opportunities after its three-year programme – from opening a personal (or online) jewellery business, to working in the industry as a designer or production specialist. The degree also qualifies graduates to become teachers in the public school system.
The official opening of the exhibition – which is already accessible to the public from 18 October – will take place at 5pm on Friday 31 October, in the courtyard of Palazzo Guiccioli, in front of the display cases. The event will be attended by Mirella Falconi Mazzotti (President of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Ravenna), Ernesto Giuseppe Alfieri (President of the Academy of Fine Arts of Ravenna), Paola Babini (Director of the Academy), and Alberta Fabbri (Director of the Byron and Risorgimento Museums).
