The Ravenna Risorgimento collection is made up of the Classense Risorgimento Collection, originating from donations by private citizens, to which were added the Mario Guerrini Collection, donated as a testamentary bequest to the Municipality of Ravenna in 2002, and the Risorgimento collection of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Ravenna.
Paintings, sculptures, engravings, photographs, weapons, uniforms, posters, medals, various memorabilia, correspondence, and a substantial collection of decrees, edicts, proclamations, and other printed materials delineate a chronological and thematic itinerary along the rooms on the first floor of Palazzo Guiccioli. The perspective provided moves from the major currents of thought sweeping through Europe to the social fabric of Ravenna, the living conditions during the Risorgimento wars, and the dynamic embedding of ideas into daily reality at the time of the Risorgimento.
Alongside the exhibits, an immersive multimedia narration offers a rich overview of the period of Italian and Ravennese history from the Napoleonic era to the end of the century. Thus, the exhibition aims to establish a more direct and fruitful communication with the visitor, offering a rediscovery of the Risorgimento as a laboratory of knowledge, research, and study, as well as an enjoyable and fascinating intellectual and civic adventure.
