The new educational initiative created through the collaboration between the Liceo Artistico e Musicale “Nervi-Severini” of Ravenna and the Byron and Risorgimento Museums aims to help young people gain a deeper understanding of Byron’s presence in Ravenna and to grasp the profound meaning of a museum: transforming cultural heritage into something vital and meaningful. The initiative emerged from the encounter between Professor Leonarda Pezzi and the Director of the Museums, Alberta Fabbri, who shared both the vision and the opportunity to develop a joint project.
A bridge connecting the school and the museum, and offering professional paths for the future: this is the core meaning of this initiative, which is the result of close collaboration between Prof. Pezzi, teacher of English Language and Literature, and Director Fabbri. The project has been enthusiastically supported by both institutions. The director brought a preview of the museum visit directly into the classroom, illustrating the concept and architectural vision of the museum while sharing her professional experience.
The project includes two meetings for fourth-year classes, dedicated to exploring the Byron Museum and the professions that animate the world of cultural heritage.
The first meeting, entitled “The Reasons for the Museum,” has already taken place. It offered a journey through the history of the museum complex in Palazzo Guiccioli, the origins of the Byron Museum, its collections, the restored spaces, and the relationship between the museum and the city. It provided an opportunity to reflect on what it means today to speak of cultural heritage and what role a museum plays within the urban fabric.
On 25th March, the second meeting will take place: “The Museum and Museum Professions.” In this dialogue session the director will explain the complexity of museum work—from scientific management to conservation, from protection to public engagement—along with the skills and responsibilities required to lead a cultural institution.
Between the two meetings, the classes will visit the Byron Museum to collect materials and observations for further discussion. Each group will be invited to identify a significant artifact and imagine a possible creative development inspired by it: from storytelling to comics, and even more experimental formats such as an escape room.
A final encounter is planned between April and May, during which students will share their reflections and the projects developed throughout the programme.
The initiative forms part of the orientation activities of the Liceo Artistico e Musicale and highlights the value of lively discussion and knowledge-sharing. It presents the museum not only as a place of conservation, but also as a living, educational space in continual dialogue with the community.
